For the fifth time in the last six years, the Wabash High School boys captured the Three Rivers Conference cross country championship at Tippecanoe Valley High School here Saturday.
The Lady Apaches, fielding a full team for the first time in a long time, took fourth, behind Maconaquah, Manchester and Northfield, respectively.
The Wabash County volleyball teams had a busy week last week and close out the regular season with the Three Rivers Conference title still up for grabs with Southwood and Wabash leading the pack and Northfield still holding on to hopes for a share of the title.
For the second time this season, the Wabash boys tennis team defeated Manchester by a 4-1 score. This time, however, it meant the end of the Squires’ season with the second match coming in the first round of the Peru Sectional Wednesday, Sept. 28.
Wabash swept the singles matches.
Southwood’s Cole Winer had a monster game, Wabash won a thriller, and Manchester won their first game of the season to highlight football in Wabash County Friday, Sept. 30.
The Wabash and Manchester boys soccer completed their respective regular seasons and hit the pitch this week in the Class 2A Wabash Sectional.
The Wabash boys soccer team shut out Peru and Tri Central while Manchester defeated Lakeland Christian Academy and Fort Wayne South Side last week.
Manchester heads into the final week of the regular season with a 4-0 TRC record with a matchup against 4-0 Maconaquah and North Miami.
The Wabash tennis team won a tight win over Whitko before easily handling Blackford last week.
It was their first and only time on their home course – City Park – this year.
And it was a momentous occasion because for the first time in over a decade the Wabash girls cross country team came away with a championship trophy.
