Lady Apaches beat Manchester in low-scoring affair
By Eric Christiansen

Wabash and Manchester made a memory Saturday night.

The Wabash County and Three Rivers Conference rivals struggled to put points on the scoreboard as the two teams combined for 32 points with the Apaches scoring the final four points of the game over a four minute stretch to top the Squires 19-13.

“We just put offensive basketball back 40 years,” Wabash coach Matt Stone jokingly said after the game.

Apaches hold off late Squire run
By Eric Christiansen

Wabash seemed to take control of their game with the Manchester Squires with a second quarter 15-0 run to take a 25-12 lead with 2:48 left in the first half. The Apaches never trailed after that, but the Squires didn’t make it easy in the fourth quarter.

The Squires hit five 3-pointers in the final nine minutes and got it as close as five points with 2:10 left, but Wabash held off Manchester to get the 61-54 Three Rivers Conference win.

Manchester had trouble all night with the inside game of Wabash, especially Austin Vinopal who scored 23 points to lead the Apaches.

“Our game plan every night is to get the ball inside,” Wabash coach Paul Wright said. “Austin played a great game and had great feeds from the guards”

Knights run away from Squires in fourth quarter
By Eric Christiansen

NORTH MANCHESTER -- In a tight, back-and-fourth ball game between Southwood and Manchester, the Knights went from trailing the Squires later in the third quarter to cruising to a 65-52 win.

Southwood's Carson Blair scored 23 of his game-high 35 points over the last 11 minutes of the game to slam the door on the Squires.

Things were slow-going early on with Manchester taking an 8-7 lead midway through the first quarter. Two baskets from Mason Hamby and one from Koehl Fluke gave the Squires a 12-7 lead, and they led 18-14 after the first quarter.

Wabash’s boys and Northfield’s girls won home-and-home basketball games on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 16-17.

On Friday, Wabash’s boys defeated the host Norse, 53-41. However, on Saturday the Lady Norse defeated host Wabash, 56-50.

On Friday, Northfield drew first blood on a basket by Austin Trump. Wabash battled back, scoring seven unanswered points, all from Trenton Daughtry.

Northfield battled back with a pair of free-throws from Kyle Reed and another basket from Trump to pull Northfield within one, 7-6.

After Derek Vogal put the Apaches up by three, 9-6, Reed tied the score on a basket and free throw following a foul on Matt Jones.

Luke Mattern put the Apaches up 11-9 at the end of the first quarter. It would be the closest Northfield was the rest of the evening.
