Southwood and Northfield will play for a third time
The IHSAA released the draws for the 2023 boys basketball state tournament Sunday night, Feb. 19, the sectional play to begin Tuesday, Feb. 29.
The Southwood girls basketball team set a school record with 19 wins this season but they weren’t able to reach number 20 as they saw their season come to an end at the hands of Tri High School, 54-43, in the IHSAA Class 1A Regional at Wes-Del Saturday, Feb. 11.
Manchester wrestler Rex Moore is carrying on the family tradition as the third Moore brother to wrestle in the IHSAA Wrestling State Finals.
Manchester’s Josie Briner capped off the varsity girls swim season by finishing 30th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:17.39 and 28th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.72.

Peru hit two free throws with 11 seconds remaining to tie the game at 51.
Gavin Betten brought the ball up the court, passed the ball to Wyatt Prater who relayed it to Gavin Martin in the corner.
Martin’s three-point attempt bounced off the rim. Manchester’s Trevor Heath had both hands on the ball on the rebound but Peru’s Alex Ross knocked the ball loose in into the quick-reacting hands of Betten.

The Wabash varsity basketball teams both proved to be the cream of the crop at the Wabash County Tournament Wednesday, Dec. 28, and Thursday, Dec. 29, at Manchester Junior-Senior High School.
A Wabash native was named the Indiana Golf Association’s Player of the Year during a banquet Nov. 17.
Brett Widner received the honor during an event at the Broadmor Country Club.
The Wabash and Northfield each went 1-1 in the opening week of the 2022-23 season while Southwood and Manchester each went winless.
