The Northfield and Wabash girls golf teams ended their seasons at the East Noble Regional Friday, Sept. 24, at Noble Hawk Golf Course.

Lady Apache soccer team tops Manchester in double OT

The third time was the charm for the Wabash girls soccer team. In its third attempt to finish its Three Rivers Conference matchup against Manchester, with the first halted by lightning, the second called by lightning again with 2:47 left to play in regulation, the teams concluded the match, this time in the rain.

With a 0-0 tie going into overtime, neither team scored in the two overtime periods, leading to a shootout, which the Lady Apaches won with 3 goals to Manchester’s 1.

Libby Mattern, Linda Cordes, and Rylee Yoakum all converted in the shootout, while Hannah Layne allowed just one, and 16 saves overall for Wabash.

Apache tennis team sweeps Blackford

The Wabash boys tennis team swept Blackford 5-0 last week as a nice lead-in to sectional later this week.

Apache boys stay atop TRC soccer standings

The Wabash boys soccer won two Three Rivers Conference matches in overtime to stay atop of the TRC standings heading into the final week of the season.

Kaufman family accepts PGA award

Gene Kaufman, the late founder and owner of Etna Acres Golf Course, was posthumously honored Aug. 16 by the PGA with the 2021 Deacon Palmer Award.

Kaufman’s grandson, Devin Dale, accepted the honor on behalf of his grandfather.

Indiana Golf officials announced on March 10 on its Facebook page:

“Congratulations to our 2021 Deacon Palmer Award winner, Gene Kaufman of Etna Acres GC. The Deacon Palmer Award bestows special recognition on a PGA Golf Professional who personally displays outstanding integrity, character and leadership, in the effort to overcome a major obstacle in their life. This individual is an unsung hero/heroine at their facility and in their community, who serve to inspire, empower and assist others, both inside and outside of the game.

Squires boy dominate Peru in soccer match

Four second-half Manchester goals turned a 2-1 halftime lead into a dominating 6-2 win over Peru Thursday, Aug. 19.

Michael Ortiz led the Squires with a hat-trick, scoring three goals, while Tyler McLain, Diego Munoz, and Nathaniel Miller each adding one goal.

Miller assisted on three goals, and Owen Kruschwitz and Munoz each had one assist.
