The Southwood Knight volleyball team continued its impressive season by cruising through Sectional 52, which they hosted, to claim the championships after defeating Pioneer in the championship match Saturday night, Oct. 16.

Five county runners on to semi-state

Three Wabash County cross country teams sixth at the IHSAA regionals events Saturday, just missing a chance to advance to this Saturday’s semi-state meets.

Actually, the Wabash boys team tied for sixth place with Norwell at the Marion regional, held at the Indiana Wesleyan University course, but finished seventh based on their sixth finisher. The Apaches had finished third at the Marion sectional race Oct. 9 to earn their sixth straight regional appearance.

At the Culver Academies regional, both Manchester teams finished sixth in the 10-team field – the girls by a mere two points to Western.

After both teams went into sudden-death penalty kicks in their respective first-round matches of the Wabash Sectional earlier in the week, it appeared that the Manchester and Wabash girls soccer teams would be heading into extra play in the championship match Saturday, Oct. 9.

Wabash boys win first soccer sectional title

Wabash boys soccer coach Bill Benysh knew his team a chance.

Leading a program that is just in its sixth year of existence, the Apaches won its first sectional championship in a nail-biting 1-0 win over Blackhawk Christian Saturday afternoon, Oct. 9.

Wabash needed just one goal, and that came from Sol France, ten minutes into the second half, when he found a window from 18 yards out.

“This is great,” Benysh said. “Sol is a finisher – just a dominant player wherever we put him on the field.

Apache boys finish 3rd in TRC cross country

AKRON – Without two of their top seven runners, Wabash finished third at the Three Rivers Conference cross country championships, missing a chance at five straight titles.
