Apache Care distributes gifts of warmth

As temperatures dropped in mid-December, Wabash High School students countered the cold by offering gifts of warmth to neighbors in need.

On Wednesday, Dec. 14, students of the Apache Care group hung bags of gloves, mittens, hats and coats on trees in downtown Wabash.

Canadian Brass looks forward to Wabash performance

Canadian Brass, a world-renowned brass quintet, returns to the Honeywell Center Ford Theater Saturday, Jan. 7, with new songs and entertainment.
 
The band has performed in Wabash numerous time, “but I think it’s not enough,” trumpet player Chris Coletti told The Paper of Wabash County.
 
“We of course want Wabash to know how excited we are to be coming back,” he said.

Wabash man convicted in molesting

A former Wabash man was convicted Wednesday, Dec. 21, for charges that stemmed from a 1997 child molesting case.

Christopher L. Kimble, 46, Fairfax, S.C., was found guilty of felony child molesting and felony attempted child molesting.

NM attorney elected to County Council seat

NORTH MANCHESTER -- In a 6-0 vote, County Council District 1 precinct committee members selected North Manchester attorney Matthew Mize as the Council's newest member Wednesday night, Dec. 21.

Mize replaces retiring Councilman Claude Markstahler for the Chester Township seat, defeating local businessman Anthony DeLaughter.

Inmate captured after escaping from Courthouse

An inmate at the Wabash County Jail briefly escaped from custody while being transferred from the Wabash County Courthouse to the jail on Monday, Dec. 19.

The inmate, Rodney J. Reahard, 26, escaped from custody at the Wabash County Courthouse, Sheriff Bob Land said in a news release.

City gets bids for sewer separation project's next phase

The City of Wabash received six bids on Wednesday, Dec. 21, for the second phase of the city’s Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Long Term Control Plan project.

The bids, opened during a special Board of Public Works and Safety meeting, ranged from $2.47 million from Geiger Excavating to $4.24 million from Lykins Contracting.

Johnston retires as City Schools board attorney

After 47 years of service, John Johnston retired as the Wabash City Schools attorney on Monday, Dec. 19, at the Board of Education’s final meeting of the year.

Every year since 1969, the WCS Education Board appointed Johnston to the role and now he’s decided to retire, according to Jason Callahan, superintendent.

4-H Council honors 52 seniors

The Wabash County 4-H Council recognized 52 senior 4-H members for their hard work in program during ceremonies on Friday, Dec. 16.

The recognition came during halftime of the Southwood-Manchester girls basketball game at Manchester, and the Wabash-Northfield boys basketball game at Northfield.
