Honeywell adds 2 to board of directors

Honeywell Arts & Entertainment has grown tremendously over the years, most recently to include the beautifully restored and renovated Eagles Theatre to its list of venues. Heading that progress is a board of directors which has the vision and ambition to see the Honeywell properties grow and expand, bringing more and more foot traffic and excitement to Northeast Indiana.

Steve Ahlfeld: An IU Hoosier for life?

I think I only saw him play one game for Northfield High School. His last season at NHS was my first at the Wabash Plain Dealer.

And, I’m not positive, but I think I saw him play once for Indiana University at Assembly Hall during my time as sports editor at the PD.

That being said, Dr. Steve K. Ahlfeld is a “legend” in his own right.

He was recruited by then IU Head Coach Bob Knight and was a senior member of the 1974-75 Hoosiers, which “The General” called the best team he ever coached.

Wabash City, MSD districts receive grants

Two school corporations have benefitted from a grant program designed to give educators a financial tool to make improvements to their facilities.

At board of trustee meetings for both Wabash City Schools on Dec. 13 and Metropolitan School District of Wabash County on Dec. 14, board members learned that an organization known as Brighter Futures Indiana had provided grants for various programs within those districts.

State OKs funding for regional projects

Several projects around Wabash County will benefit thanks to Indiana’s Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (REDI).

Following a joint meeting of the board of directors of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) and the Indiana Economic Development Foundation on Dec. 14, the Northeast Indiana Regional Development Authority (RDA) awarded $50 million to support Northeast Idnaian’s regional economic development plan.

Local family knows first-hand about blood shortage

The economic law of supply and demand takes on a heightened sense of urgency when it comes to the demand for the literal life’s blood for the sick and injured. No one knows that more than the Adamiec family of North Manchester.

As the American Red Cross, the country’s main caretaker for the nation’s blood supply announces current shortages for both whole blood and platelets, the Adamiecs have campaigned hard for one of their own to the point where current goals have been met. Yet, shortages remain.

Ride for a Cause raises $65,000-plus

The ninth annual Ride for a Cause raised more than $65,000 for the fight against breast cancer.

The ride, which took place Sept. 18, was based at Brandt’s Harley-Davidson in Wabash.

Local woman publishes first book

A Wabash woman has parlayed her personal spirituality into a possible career as author.

Lisa Kay Childers, a 1996 graduate of Manchester High School, has published her debut novel, entitled “Camp America.” Childers’ book is based on main character Tegan Alice Slone and is set in Indiana.

“She is based out of a town in Indiana called Greenway,” said Childers. “I made up a fictional town in Indiana to base all my stories. So, every story comes out of Greenway, Indiana.
