Commissioners update bulk copy ordinance

At its Monday, Sept. 11, stated meeting, the Wabash County Board of Commissioners passed its fourth ordinance of 2017.
 
Ordinance No. 2017-85-04, “An ordinance providing for the manner and form for providing bulk form copies to a bulk form user,” essentially increases the cost of purchasing copies of county documents from the recorder’s office by three cents.

New event center opens in Wabash

A new facility to host wedding receptions, family reunions and everything in between has opened in Wabash.

The 99-seat event center is located in the RK Auction Center, 808 Manchester Ave.

“We can seat 99 very comfortably in here,” owner Robert Kisner said. “We’ve got rectangle tables and chairs for them, so you don’t have to worry about bringing that.

“You can bring your own food or you can have it catered.”

INDOT to begin 2 Wabash County railroad crossing improvement projects

Two Wabash County railroad crossings will be undergoing improvements, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.
 
John Martin, Wabash County highway superintendent, informed the Wabash County Board of Commissioners of INDOT’s notification at the board’s meeting Tuesday, Sept. 5, according to the minutes.
 
The two crossings—one being the east-west rail line where it intersects Old U.S. 24 east of Lagro and the other being on County Road 750 East just south of Blue Star Highway—will both be completed within a 12-month period, according to Martin.

Studies for Advancement public meetings scheduled; Officials to report results Sept. 20, 21

The public will soon learn the results of the Studies for Advancement, a feasibility-study initiative to assist Wabash County’s school corporations.
 
The Community Foundation of Wabash County announced Monday, Sept. 11, that the studies’ first phase completed and the summary report will soon be presented.

Wabash County residents learned more about the USS Indiana SSN 789 submarine by directly questioning its crewmen Friday morning, Sept. 1, at Modoc’s Market.

Nearly a dozen locals, including veterans from North Manchester, Wabash and Lagro, attended the meet and greet with Naval Officers Lt. Christopher Reilly, Torpedoman’s Mate Petty Officer Third Class Brandon Hernandez, Sonar Technician Petty Officer Third Class James Dickers and Electronics Technician Seaman Hassan Corley-Perry.

The event was one in a series to introduce Hoosiers to the crew of the USS Indiana and vice versa, according to Ray Shearer, chairman of the U.S.S. Indiana Commissioning Committee.

Annual Roann Covered Bridge Festival celebrates 100-plus years of festivals

The annual Roann Covered Bridge Festival returns on Thursday, Sept. 7, and this year’s will be celebrating the rural Wabash County town’s accomplishment of hosting more than 100 festivals.
 
Festival Committee Co-Chair Donna Harman told The Paper of Wabash County that the town’s festivals have been documented back to 1913 and is a miraculous feat.
 
“I don’t think there are many other towns that can say that (they’ve had town festivals for 100 years),” Harman said, later adding, “I think that people care about their little small towns and want to keep it going.”

Dam to Dam ride is Sunday

Between 600 and 700 bicycle riders are expected to converge on Wabash County this weekend for the eighth annual Dam to Dam Century Bike Ride. The ride is on Sunday, Sept. 10.
 
Riders will depart the Wabash County YMCA between 7:30 and 9 a.m. and can ride 15, 30, 50, 62 or 100 miles.

Parkview Wabash nurses strive for certification

More than 30 percent of the nurses at Parkview Wabash Hospital have received certification, and that number is expected to grow.

Certification is the formal process by which a certifying agency, such as American nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), validates a nurse’s knowledge, skills and abilities in a defined role and clinical area of practice, based on predetermined standards, according to Cathy Wolfe, Vice President of Patient Care Services at Parkview Wabash.
