WASHINGTON, -- U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue is encouraging dairy producers to consider enrolling in the new and improved Margin Protection Program for Dairy (MPP-Dairy), which will provide better protections for dairy producers from shifting milk and feed prices. With changes authorized under the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) has set the enrollment period to run from April 9, 2018 to June 1, 2018.

"We recognize the financial hardships many of our nation’s dairy producers are experiencing right now. Folks are losing their contracts and they are getting anxious about getting their bills paid while they watch their milk check come in lower and lower each month. The Bipartisan Budget Act provided some much-needed incentives for dairy producers to make cost-effective decisions to strengthen their farms, mitigate risk, and conserve their natural resources,” said Secretary Perdue. “This includes our support of America’s dairy farms. We encourage dairy producers to review the provisions of the updated program, which Congress shaped with their feedback. Those changes are now in effect, and I’d ask any producers who are interested to contact their local USDA service centers.”

Ivy Tech Community College’s Wabash Site brought in $21,000 Friday night at Monopoly Night. All funds will benefit the Community Spirit Scholarship, which provides scholarships to Wabash County Ivy Tech students.

Three Wabash County farm families were among those receiving the Hoosier Homestead Award, which recognizes farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more.

For the past several weeks, the Wabash County Sheriff's Department has been researching options for a new transport van.
Sheriff Bob Land presented the financial information to the county commissioners Monday, April 2, with a request to proceed with the purchase.

“Myself and the jail commander went to the company just to see what we're looking at [for the van's insert],” Land said. “Total price on the insert is $18,595.”

For the van itself, Shepherd's Chevrolet bid $25,529 and Dorais bid $25,531.

Asberry is a 2015 graduate of Christian Theological Seminary with a Master’s in Divinity and a 2011 graduate of Indiana University with a Bachelor of Arts.  During her time in seminary, she visited South Africa as part of an extensive two-year study of liberation theology and the Church’s role in the anti-Apartheid movement.

Originally from Auburn, Berg is an accomplished pianist in the Colorado musical community. He studied at Interlochen Arts Academy, Eastman School of Music, Mannes School of Music at The New School, and the University of Denver.

NORTH MANCHESTER – The Easter Bunny makes its 24th annual stop at Manchester University on Saturday, April 14, and all area children are invited.

Children ages 1 to 12 years will find lots to do at the free event. It begins at noon at the entrance to the “U” between East and Garver halls on East Street.

The Parkview Wabash Foundation has announced that approximately 40 of the memorials placed in Parkview Wabash Hospital by individuals and families in honor of their loved ones will be donated to the Wabash County Historical Museum, officials from the Parkview Wabash Foundation announced.

“Parkview Wabash Hospital has been the heart of the community for almost a century,” said Mitch Figert, president & CEO, Wabash County Historical Museum. “We consider it an honor to help preserve the hospital’s history and honor the memory of patients as well as the dedicated staff.”
